The second gameday for Group H in South Africa kicks off with the match of Chile against Switzerland on June 21, and the question remains: Can Switzerland dance to the Latino rhythms? Surrounded by three Latin teams that play a more or less similar game, Switzerland will fight for the second qualifying position in the group behind World Cup favourites Spain.
Coming to this game Switzerland will probably have zero points (their opening game is against Spain), and with the back against the wall. The Swiss simply cannot afford to lose any more ground, and today’s game is the most important match of the entire World Cup 2010 tournament. Chile is Switzerland’s number one contender on the race to the round of 16, and they also have a slight advantage with their group schedule. Because Chile is playing against Spain in the last game of Group H, and if the Spanish have already secured the first spot maybe they decide to give some rest to their key players. Thus giving Chile an opportunity to grab some valuable points, a luxury that the other teams will not have.
There is the likely scenario also that Chile also lost their first game against Honduras, so coming to today’s match up they will also have a matter of life and death situation in their hands. This will make things quite interesting, since the team that leaves victorious from Port Elizabeth will most likely advance to the second round of the World Cup tournament. We would put our money on Chile though since they are the better team, at least on theory. Chile finished second in their World Cup qualifying group behind mighty Brazil, so they clearly should not be taken lightly.
