Picture of Port Elizabeth / Nelson Mandela BayPort Elizabeth (or Nelson Mandela Bay) is one of the largest cities in South Africa with a population of 1.3 million people living in the greater metropolitan area. It is also one of the the most popular destinations, full of tourists that visit Port Elizabeth to enjoy the exceptional beaches in and near the city. Over 40 kilometres of clean, golden sandy beaches surround Nelson Mandela Bay, most of them sporting a Blue Flag for being environmentaly friendly. Wells Estate, Humewood, Hobie and King’s Beach are just some of the beautiful spots where tourists enjoy themselves with a refreshing dip in the Indian Ocean. The magnificent Port Elizabeth beach front is full of shops, bars and restaurants courtesy of the infamous Boardwalk Casino and Entertainment World located there. Other interesting attractions in the area include the most popular national park in South Africa called Ado, the picturesque Garden Route and the Donkin Heritage Trail that connects many historical places and museums together.

The stadium that will host the World Cup 2010 matches in Port Elizabeth is called (what else?) the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium, a brand new building holding 46,000 spectators. Some of the most important games will be played here including the third place final, a quarter-finals match for a total of 8 games overall. Football fans can come into the city by road, train, sea or air through the Port Elizabeth Airport (fourth busiest airport in South Africa).
