Slovakia is a country located in Central Europe and it used to be part of Czechoslovakia and the Austro-Hungarian Empire. Slovakia has around 5 million citizens, and around half a million people live in the capital and largest city of Bratislava. Other well known and important cities in Slovakia include Košice, Prešov, Žilina and Nitra. The official language is Slovak, but Hungarian is also widely spoken in some regions. The Slovakia football team is a relatively new association that was founded ater the dissolution of Czechoslovakia. The 2010 World Cup in South Africa will be the first time the Slovakia team will participate in the tournament (Czechoslovakia has qualified a total of 8 times, and went twice to the final).
