It’s no secret that the Netherlands are sending to South Africa one of the best football teams in their history, and are one of the favourites to win the World Cup trophy. The Netherlands have already reached the final twice in the 70’s, but both times lost the trophy to the host country (1974 Germany and 1978 Argentina). The second wave of great Dutch footballers managed to win the Euro 1988 which is the only major tournament title for the team.
But now things are different according to Wesley Sneijder, the team has been on a great run for a few years now and coming to South Africa there is only one thing on everyone’s mind: to win the trophy. “I’m always happy playing for the national team and come together with all my teammates” he says, adding that finishing first in the group stage is of the outmost importance. “After we will look at each game individually and with a little bit of luch we can definitely go far in the competition”.
The Netherlands are in Group E of the 2010 World Cup playing against Denmark, Japan and Cameroon.
