Pelé always says what he thinks, especially right before a World Cup tournament. Apparently he is now suggesting to Brazilian coach Dunga that Ronaldinho has a place in the national team. The 30 year old midfielder has already participated in 2 World Cup competitions, making his experience invaluable according to the football legend. “Ronaldinho can definitely help when the young inexperienced players of the team feel the pressure piling up” he says. According to Pelé Brazil has a strong young team but is lacking the experience since most players have never played in a World Cup before. He praises coach Dunga for his impressive record but adds that “This is not the time to experiment, even teams like Argentina that practically qualified last have players that are used to playing in big tournaments”.
Ronaldinho is having an average season with AC Milan, and hasn’t played for Brazil since last April. Even though the player made a tremendous effort to increase his chances of being called to the Brazilian national team, it appears that he is not in the plans of coach Dunga. In a recent interview Ronaldinho said that his biggest goal is to play in the 2014 World Cup that is hosted in Brazil. “It’s a dream come true for every player, and as long as I keep playing well for Milan I can be part of the national team”.
On a side note to our story, the famous Panini football collection for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa will be soon available - including Ronaldinho in the roster of Brazil! Maybe coach Dunga refuses to call the player, but Panini apparently thinks different. In an in house presentation of the latest playing cards edition, an employee leaked a photo of the album showing the Brazilian team with Mr. Ronaldinho being there. Every four years the Italian publishing house makes a special edition just for the World Cup, choosing the players based on statistics, total appearances etc.
