The initial World Cup 2010 team roster selections have officially started this week, and already there are a few surprises and some big names not coming to South Africa this summer. Ruud van Nistelrooy of the Netherlands, Kevin Kurányi of Germany and Amauri from Italy are some of the players that have not been selected in the team roster from their coaches.
Ruud van Nistelrooy had retired from international football and the Dutch national team in 2008, but he had recently announced his plans to return. 33 year old Van Nistelrooy moved to Hamburg from Real Madrid to get more play time and be ready for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, but apparently coach Bert van Marwijk thinks otherwise leaving him outside the initial roster selection of the Netherlands.
Kevin Kurányi is currently in great shape with his club Schalke, and German media is putting pressure on coach Joachim Löw to bring him back in the national team. With 18 goals this season he is one of the top scorers in the Bundesliga, but his coach does not forget what happened in 2008 when Kurányi left the game during half time and failed to come back to the hotel because Löw did not select him as one of the 18 players that day. After that incident the German manager had said that he would never again select Kurányi for the national team, and it seems he is keeping his word.
Amauri just received his Italian citizenship a month ago and was excited to join Italy for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa. But Marcello Lippi put an end to Amauri’s dream and the Brazilian born player will be staying home this summer. Lippi had many surprises in the initial team roster selection, but players from Inter and Roma were not selected since the two teams are involved in Wednesday’s Coppa Italia final.
