During a presentation yesterday of the official World Cup 2010 ball in the Adidas headquarters, Franz Beckenbauer said that he believes the German national team can once again be in the top four during the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.
“Germany is not the kind of team that shines in every competition, but stable enough to repeat the success of 2006″ said Beckenbauer, adding that he is excited for the first World Cup tournament on African soil. “Everyone that knows South Africa well, realizes what a beautiful country it is. I would love to see a final between Germany and South Africa this summer.”
The Brazilian coach of the South Africa national team Carlos Alberto Parreira was also part of the presentation, and Beckenbauer did not forget to give him some support. “South Africa had a great run in the Confederations Cup, and they key is definitely Parreira. You need an experienced manager in the World Cup”.
Bayern Munich’s chairman has already won the World Cup trophy both as a player and a coach, and is considered one of the most important football players in history. Beckenbauer played in 3 World Cup competitions with West Germany, and is a member of the National Soccer Hall of Fame. He still remains an important personality for international football and Germany, successfully leading his country and winning the bid for the 2006 FIFA World Cup. Beckenbauer also works as a commentator for various German TV stations, and writes a regularly football columns for local newspapers or magazines.
