World Cup 2010 reporters robbed

by christine

Three World Cup 2010 reporters became the victims of armed robbery in South Africa yesterday. The three reporters (two Portuguese and one Spanish) were sleeping in their hotel room, when at 4 in the morning three burglars suddenly entered and threatened the journalists at gunpoint.

The reporters were robbed of their laptops, passports, cameras, cellphones, as well as their passes to the World Cup 2010 games. There was not any physical violence involved in the incident, but the three journalists were definitely scared. Earlier today the South African police authorities announced that one of the three burglars had already been arrested, but the other two are still missing. The thief was uncovered and brought in by the stolen cellphone signal he had in his possession.

Just a few days ago the Colombian national team was also robbed when in South Africa for a World Cup 2010 friendly game. Hotel employees enter the players’ rooms while in practice, and stole money as well as other valuable possessions. The three rogue employees were arrested a few hours later.
