Wayne Rooney is accused of a foul mouth from England’s last friendly match referee Jeff Selogilwe. The South African referee showed Rooney the yellow card during England’s friendly 3-0 victory over the Platinum Stars, and the 24 year old striker became offensive towards him and apparently started cursing.
Wayne Rooney told me “F*** you,” said Selogilwe after the game. “He needs to learn how to keep his temper, if he uses the same language during the World Cup 2010 he will definitely get sent off and miss some games for England. It is a shame really, we were playing a friendly game were referees are not professionals. It looks different from the TV, but up close I saw that Rooney spends a lot of time trash talking with opponents and getting on referees nerves.”
But closing up with the interview the South African referee revealed that Wayne Rooney is still one of his favourites: “Well he remains my best player despite all that. After the end of the game Rooney came up to me to apologise, and he even game me his jersey.”
