England’s only success in the international stage came almost 45 years ago during the 1966 World Cup tournament. And it’s usually around this time that almost everybody in England is looking for a sign, something to show that the national team will achieve greatness in the upcoming World Cup 2010 in South Africa. The Sun is following this tradition and today lists the top 10 reasons and why England will win the 2010 World Cup this summer.
1. FANS: England’s fans are the most hungry, and have purchased the biggest number of tickets for the World Cup 2010 so far. The players will definitely feel like playing in front of a home crowd in almost every World Cup game.
2. ELECTIONS: England voted for a new president in spring, and this is exactly what had happened before the 1966 finals when the English national team won their first and only World Cup trophy.
3. NORTH KOREA: North Korea is coming to the World Cup for the first time since 1966, another sign that England will win the 2010 World Cup competition.
4. SPAIN: Spain was the European Champion of 1964 and two years later England became the World Cup winner. And now Spain has returned to the top winning the Euro 2008.
5. WEATHER: According to the Weather forecast both June and July are expected to be rather cold in South Africa. These low temperatures benefit England since the players are used to playing in bad weather.
6. RIO FERDINAND: England’s captain Rio Ferdinand started his career in West Ham United, the same team were Bobby Moore played in 1966 while being England’s captain during that World Cup also.
7. WAYNE ROONEY: Wayne Rooney is not injured this time and expected to be England’s number one goal scoring machine.
8. FABIO CAPELLO: Italian coach Fabio Capello has won a major trophy with every single team he has ever coached, except England of course but this is about to change.
9. WAGS: Players were allowed to bring their wives and girlfriends during the 2006 World Cup, but this time Capello has strictly forbidden any contact. England’s players will be more focused this time, without any temptations distracting them.
10. JP MORGAN: According to JP Morgan’s Quant Model system, Brazil has the best football team in the upcoming tournament. But England will be the winner since they are benefited more from the World Cup schedule.
