England is now one of the favourite teams to win the World Cup 2010 in South Africa, and according to Steven Gerrard coach Fabio Capello has a very positive effect on the team. Capello took over England right after failing to qualify for the 2008 European Championship finals, and within a few years managed to completely turn things around for the national team. The dramatic change in psychology and improvement on the field were immediately visible for England, and now just two years later the team is aiming high again.
“From the moment Fabio Capello took over things started changing for us. We were all under heavy pressure and lots of stress before Capello came aboard, but he gave us the spirit of a winner and filled England’s national team with confidence. I believe we can go past the group stage, but cannot predict what will happen later on. I don’t want to guess neither, but I think we have a good mix of experience and talent,” says Gerrard.
After an impressive run for England during the qualifying period of the World Cup 2010 the confidence levels are at maximum level. “Everyone back home will be watching us closely and we want to make our country proud.” Steven Gerrard recently took over the role of vice-captain for England, and coming to the World Cup 2010 he is the most experienced international of the team with 80 appearances.
