Steven Gerrard is still highly optimistic, and believes that England can do great during the World Cup 2010 in South Africa even without the help of Rio Ferdinand. England’s captain Rio Ferdinand got injured last week and is forced to miss the entire World Cup 2010 tournament. Now Steven Gerrard steps up to the plate to wear the captain’s armband, while leading England to a second World Cup trophy this summer.
“We are all definitely very disappointed for Rio Ferdinand, but I’m sure when the time comes for our first official World Cup 2010 game the team will be ready to win. For me it is just amazing to be England’s captain during the World Cup in South Africa, but I would prefer if Ferdinand was healthy and with us. So my feelings are a little bit mixed right now for sure”
England’s World Cup 2010 opening game is next Saturday June 12 against the United States. Steven Gerrard is now the captain of the English team since Rio Ferdinand’s unlucky last minute injury is forcing him to withdraw from the biggest sporting event of the year.
