It’s no big secret that almost everybody in France dislikes coach Raymond Domenech for some reason. I mean the French team is always struggling in the qualifying season since he took over, finished last in their group at the Euro 2008 scoring a mere goal in the whole tournament, and are in the World Cup finals because Henri scored a goal with his hand. He has always been under tremendous pressure by the media, but somehow managed to redeem himself in 2006 when the French football team went all the way to the final after beating favourites Spain, Brazil and Portugal. Can he do it all over again? He is confident the team will prove they deserve to be in South Africa and are not just there because of an unfair goal against Ireland.
In an interview that circulated the web today Domenech says that “the pressure is on me right now, but my players are aware that they will most likely be the center of criticism during the World Cup if something goes wrong”. He concludes saying that the recent bad results of the team are because there are a lot of new players that need to adjust to the strategy and philosophy of the team, and there is a transition period since the older players are giving their place to some new blood. “My job is to prepare these players as best as I can, and if the fans cannot see that we are working hard to increase our level of performance then they are not thinking towards the right direction”.
France is playing in Group A of the 2010 World Cup against host nation South Africa, and the always dangerous Latin teams of Mexico and Uruguay.
