The opening game of Group B is between South Korea and Greece, a really hard match for anyone to predict. Greece came in 2004 out of nowhere to win the European Championship beating host team and favourite Portugal two times in their own house. They went to the 2008 Euro competition as the team with the best record and most points overall and did absolutely nothing, just scoring a single goal in the whole tournament. The previous World Cup appearance for the Greeks was a total disaster, they left the group stage without any goals while losing from both their current opponents in South Africa (Argentina and Nigeria, 4-0 and 2-0 respectively). Greece’s strength is its defence that can bring any team down on a good day, but at the same time they really struggle to score goals. If they could they would win matches by half-zero since their game depends on really strong defensive strategy with fast counter attacks and maybe making 5-6 total chances during a whole game. If one of these chances is converted into a goal then it’s really tough to break the walls that German coach Otto Rehhagel has built. On the other hand if the opponent scores fast in the game the Greeks open up trying to catch up, and usually that ends up against them.
South Korea ( or Korea Republic if we want to be politically correct) has definitely more World Cup experience with eight overall appearances in the finals. It is considered the most successful football team in Asia, but they are still well… Asian. Football is not really the strongest export of the continent, and between you and me it’s really easy to qualify for a World Cup when you are playing against Oman or Malaysia. Still South Korea was the only unbeaten team from Asian in the qualifying round, they have played in seven consecutive World Cups since 1986 while reaching the 4th place in 2002 when hosting the tournament. Most sports betting websites give a slight advantage to Greece for this game, and this is where it will most likely go. Or you can opt for some live betting action and place your bet after the first goal is scored - that team will also win this game.
