Group F

Group F will be another interesting group to follow in the 2010 World Cup, mostly for the battle between three teams to grab the 2nd place and the ticket to the next round. The World Champions Italy are the strongest team of Group F, and one of the strongest in the tournament while playing in their 17th finals overall. Sure Italy is not the greatest football team to watch relying on strong defence and playing dirty, but they always get the job done. Staying behind in the group stage is simply not an option for the Italians.

Paraguay is playing for the fourth consecutive time in the World Cup (8 times total) and the team is aiming high, looking to go further than the second round which have already reached in three separate occasions. Together with Slovakia they are the two teams that will most likely fight for the magic ticket behind the World Champions. Slovakia is looking to revive the glories of the past, when they were playing in the tournament as Czechoslovakia and reaching all the way to the World Cup final twice in 1934 and 1962 (8 appearances total). The match between these two teams will probably be one of the most important games of Group F.

New Zealand is coming in as the outsider of the group but anything can happen at this stage and we’ve seen worst teams go much further in the past. New Zealand has never been a traditional football power, and even though they breezed through the qualifying rounds things are about to get much tougher in South Africa. If they manage to cut some points from the 2 weaker teams of the group, impossible is nothing for New Zealand.
