Japan is an archipelago of almost 7 thousand islands, and is located in East Asia. Four of the largest islands form the biggest part of Japan’s total land mass (about 96%). Japan is 10th in the world in terms of population with almost 130 million people. The capital and largest city Tokyo, is the largest metropolitan area in the world with over 30 million residents. The Japanese football team is one of the most successful national teams in Asia, has won the Asian Cup a total of three times and has qualified for the last four consecutive World Cup finals. Japan will participate in Group E of the World Cup versus Cameroon, Denmark and The Netherlands.
