Greece is the south-most country in Europe, and is considered the cradle of Western civilization being the birthplace of Democracy, Science, Drama and the Olympic games. Greece has been a member of the European Union since 1981 and Euro is the currency being used. Greece has around 11 million inhabitants, with almost half of them living in the capital of Athens. The Greek national football team managed to win the European championship in 2004 despite all odds, in one of international football’s greatest surprises. The World Cup in South Africa will be the second time Greece will be participating after 1994. Greece will be playing in Group B against Argentina, Nigeria and South Korea.
