Last match of Group D in Rustenburg and the Black Stars of Ghana are are competing against the Socceroos of Australia for a spot in the second phase of the World Cup tournament. Ghana, Australia, as well as Serbia, are all looking to advance in the next round behind Germany, and in order to do that each and every game between them is very important. The country that leaves with the most points from these match ups will have a huge advantage and most likely continue in the World Cup tournament.

In our opinion Ghana has a slight advantage from the rest of the opponents for a couple of reasons. First of all they are playing in Africa, in front of an African crowd. It’s not really a home court advantage, but can definitely help. Second they have the last game of the group with Germany, the absolute strongest team of the bunch. This is great because maybe Germany has already secured the first place of Group D, therefore coming in for a little practice. Ghana could benefit from the situation to score a three pointer while leaving Australia and Serbia behind. There is also another possibility: a convenient draw guarantees first spot for the Germans and second for Ghana, no matter the result of the other game. In that case why would any team take chances?

But let’s come back to today’s game that could possibly be a matter of life and death for both countries, depending on their previous results. Anything could happen here, making the above scenario completely irrelevant. Because if Australia beats Ghana then the advantage is on their side, when in the end both teams collect the same amount of points. Australia has participated in more World Cups, but Ghana managed to place 13th in 2006. Australia is coming to South Africa undefeated, while only conceding one goal, and the team is at the best form of its entire history. Ghana is on a similar run, psyched to repeat the success of the previous World Cup, so basically this game can go either way.
