France lost another friendly game recently - this time against much weaker China, and French midfielder Florent Malouda is definitely worried for his national team that seems unable to pick up the pace. Malouda was very straight forward and spoke bluntly in this pre World Cup 2010 interview, saying France will be embarrassing and his team mates are selfish!
“I usually play on the left side for Chelsea, but this does not prevent me from going as a right winger when I have to or even switching place during a game play. But when I do that my team mates need to cover the left side, taking my place on the wing. We all need to be interested in each other’s game, and not just thinking about ourselves and our usual position. It is just not right to pick and select sides like that. We are going to be embarrassing again like in the Euro 2008, when everyone was picking sides and staying in their usual position to get good comments from the press. The coach doesn’t always have the answers during an important match, the experienced players of the team also need to come up with solutions.”
Florent Malouda will be coming to the World Cup 2010 for the second time with France, and the 29 year old player has scored three goals in 54 appearances for his national team. France is competing in Group A of the World Cup 2010 against Mexico, Uruguay and hosts South Africa.
