The head coach of Switzerland Ottmar Hitzfeld has settled on the following 23 player squad for the forthcoming World Cup 2010 in South Africa that will represent the team’s official World Cup roster. Xherdan Shaqiri of Basel was the surprise selection in the 23-man squad, while forward Marco Streller was left behind due to an injury. The list below is the final Switzerland World Cup team roster as officially announced on June 1st 2010. The team roster cannot be modified unless a player gets injured before the very first match of Switzerland in the World Cup 2010. The captain of Switzerland is Alexander Frei who currently plays as a forward for Swiss Axpo Super League club FC Basel.
