There are quite a few friendly matches happening this week, and most of the 32 contenders of the 2010 World Cup will be testing their abilities on the field against some powerful opponents. A lot of the big stars will be missing the friendlies since most of the football leagues around the world are still going strong, giving the coaches the opportunity to try and experiment with some brand new tactics while at the same time protecting their biggest guns. The World Cup friendlies already started yesterday, with Brazil beating Ireland easily by 2-0 at the Emirates Stadium, with Robinho scoring one goal and assisting another.
The most important friendly games this week include the match up of European Champions Spain against rivals France at the Stade de France, Germany is facing Argentina in a repeat of the 2006 quarter finals game, Italy will go against the African Lions of Cameroon in beautiful Monaco and the Netherlands will play the Unites States in Amsterdam. With less than a hundred days remaining for the opening game in South Africa all teams will be playing to win giving 100% on the field, so the action will be very interesting to watch at least.
Other World Cup friendly games on the agenda this week that are guaranteed to keep fans busy are: England is going up against the football team of Egypt, New Zealand playing versus Mexico on Thursday March 4, Switzerland is and Uruguay are testing their strength, Serbia will be playing with Algeria, Portugal against the team of China, South Korea is playing along with Ivory Coast in London, 2004 European champions Greece against Senegal, Slovakia against Norway, Ghana with Bosnia, Honduras against Turkey, World Cup hosts South Africa against Namibia, Austria with Denmark and Slovenia against Qatar.
So most of the national teams playing in the World Cup will be warming up this week with several international friendlies, and everyone hopes to come out victorious after these games. The friendly match between North Korea and Chile in Santiago was cancelled at the last minute after the devastating earthquake that severed the South American country last week.
