Franck Ribéry’s wife announced yesterday that she will support her husband, despite his involvement in the sex scandal allegations that are shaking the French national football team less than two month before the 2010 World Cup in South Africa. Wahiba Ribéry is also planning to attend the Champions League semifinal game between Bayern Munich and Lyon, to show everyone she is still standing by his side.
The couple have known each other since high school and got married in 2002. They already have two daughters together, Hizya is 4 and Shahinez 2 years old. Wahiba is of Algerian descent and Ribéry converted to Islam before the wedding could take place.
Franck Ribéry said that his wife’s presence in the stadium will mean a lot to him, especially since the whole world will be watching him after admitting to having sex with an underage prostitute. Ribéry has repeatedly denied that he knew the young prostitute was under 18 years old at the time the incident took place. It is still uncertain if the French player will be prosecuted, and there is no official announcement for the French Football Federation.
Even with Wahiba on the stands Franck Ribéry was sent off with a red card in the 37th minute of the Champions League game in Allianz Arena. Bayern Munich was still able to get the victory, but Ribéry’s performance definitely shows his stress level regarding this case. The French superstar left the stadium during the game, driving off together with his wife.
