The national Football Association of Germany announced today that Michael Ballack will be missing the 2010 World Cup in South Africa due to an injury. The preliminary medical tests on Ballack this Sunday showed that no bones were actually broken, but after doing a more extensive ΜRI scan on Monday morning it appears the player has a serious injury in his right ankle bone.
The announcement says that Michael Ballack will have to wear a protective boot for at least two weeks, and overall he needs a minimum of eight to nine weeks to fully recover from the injury. This automatically means that Germany will have to go on to the 2010 World Cup in South Africa without their captain. Ballack’s injury was a result of a hard tackle from Kevin-Prince Boateng during the FA Cup final between Chelsea and Portsmouth last Saturday.
Head coach of Germany Joachim Löw is now looking for a replacement just 25 days before the 2010 World Cup kicks off. Germany has been hit hard with injuries this time, and after losing their number one goalkeeper René Adler last month now they are forced to add Michael Ballack to the injury list. Ballack is one of the most important players for Germany, and he would be playing in the third World Cup tournament of his career. Since June 2005 Germany has never lost a game when Michael Ballack has scored, but now the 33 year old player cannot help his country any more.
