According to a FIFA specialist the public hospitals in South Africa are not prepared to face big unexpected incidents like mass injuries of fans during the 2010 World Cup. The professor that was hired by FIFA came to this conclusion after closely investigating and examining major public hospitals in different host cities. “The planning in South Africa for a major disaster is a disaster all by itself” said Mr. Efraim Kramer, adding that most hospitals have absolutely no idea how to handle a public outbreak and have never even run a single test or exercise.
Professor Kramer also mentioned that private hospitals in South Africa are definitely one step further and have already started preparing for the worst. Most private institutes are planning ahead for a mass disaster during the 2010 World Cup while educating their medical stuff for various incidents. “Public hospitals have failed to upgrade their facilities and there was really no training or any updates during the past year, contrary to the private sector that looks capable of handling such incidents”.
This serious report is coming just 56 days before the 2010 World Cup tournament kicks off on June 11, and after recent threats from Islamic group Al-Qaeda for a terrorist attack during the finals. The disturbing video talks about targeting specific games and injuring or killing hundreds of innocent fans, and with hospitals in South Africa unable to help authorities are starting to feel uncomfortable.
