It’s unlikely England fans will take any comfort from it, but at least they are not the side in most turmoil at the World Cup.
Although dressing room strife appears to have had a major impact on the Three Lions’ tournament, France are having an even worse time of it.
Half-time bust ups, player expulsions and even a strike have blighted what was shaping up to be a pretty awful campaign on the pitch anyway.
Their opening draw with Uruguay was compounded by a defeat to Mexico and Raymond Domenech’s men are staring elimination in the face. Anyone who placed a World Cup bet on the side will be most disappointed.
Not that they can really be called Domenech’s men anymore - the side is in open rebellion and the coach admits that some of the squad will probably not want to play in the final group game against South Africa, despite the fact a win could still see them through to the knockout stages.
Whatever happens, the fallout from this tournament is likely to last some time. Back in France, the fans have expressed their disgust about what has gone on and even the legendary Zinedine Zidane has criticised the events.
He said: “There are two things that will be remembered from this World Cup - the winner and the fact that the French team refused to attend the training session.”
Indeed, things have got so bad that some of the sponsors are reported to have begun distancing themselves from the side - odd for a team that is still playing 2010 World Cup football.
Still, it now seems highly unlikely that France will progress any further in the tournament and they could collapse against South Africa.
Regardless of what happens though it seems likely their next manager, Lauren Blanc, will have a massive cleanup job on his hands when he takes the reins.
It had already been revealed Domenech would step down after the tournament, and now all involved must be thinking that moment can’t come soon enough.
