I think Group C is the easiest group to predict in the 2010 World Cup, really a no brainer here. England and USA will advance, whereas Algeria and Slovenia won’t - as simple as that. England has already participated in 12 World Cup competitions, they have gone all the way and won the trophy once in 1966 when hosting the tournament, and the always pass the group stage with ease. The 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa will be their 13th overall appearance and most likely history will repeat itself.

Team USA is an upcoming power in the football world and has successfully qualified for the last 5 World Cups (8 total). Even though football (or soccer) is not very popular in the United States, it seems that the last few years everybody is interested to see how far the team can go this time. Especially after the 1994 World Cup that was hosted in the US, it looked like the total rebirth of American soccer was finally happening. The national league has become more competitive, big stars from all over the world are crossing the pond more often, and the American teams are now capable of doing even more. The typical American mentality says that you are either Number 1 or you are nothing, and they will never stop until they do just that.

The outsiders of Group C are definitely Algeria and Slovenia and it would be a big surprise and upset if any of the two teams manage to go on the second round. Algeria will play in the World Cup for the 3rd time, and they already had their 5 minutes of fame when beating the European Champions West Germany in the 1982 tournament. Apart from that there is nothing else really to mention, so the question is if they able to do it all over again. On the other hand Slovenia is a young and hungry team that has turned a few heads mostly in the previous decade after qualifying for both the Euro 2000 and the 2002 World Cup basically out of nowhere. All it takes is a nice result with one of the big boys to get the points they need to move past the group stage for the very first time.
