Uruguay is a small country located in South America, and has a population of 3.5 million people. The official language of Uruguay is Spanish, and the capital and largest city of the nation is Montevideo with around 1.3 million inhabitants. Uruguay is the 2nd smallest country in South America, but at the same time one of the most economically developed in the region. The Uruguay national football team is one of the most successful teams in the history of the Fifa World Cup, and has won the trophy two times in 1930 (host) and later in 1950 making Uruguay the smallest country to ever win the competition. The 2010 World Cup in South Africa will be the 11th time the national team will participate in the tournament. Uruguay is in Group A together with the hosts South Africa, France and Mexico.
