Argentinian superstar Lionel Messi is on the right track to become the best football player in history according to his coach Diego Maradona. After Messi’s extraordinary performance yesterday against Arsenal for the Champions League quarter finals, Maradona talked about the heir to his throne as many people call him. Barcelona won 4-1 with Lionel Messi scoring all four goals for his team, and the player has been on an amazing run in the last few months and on the way to the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.
“He is the football elite right now, but we can’t really talk about the best in history yet until the end of his career. It would make me extremely happy if Argentina wins the World Cup trophy, making Lionel the best football player in the world”. This was the very first interview for Maradona after getting bitten by a dog, and the manager also commented on his plans regarding the World Cup tournament. “I will play it risky for the simple reason that Argentina has to win the competition. We owe it to our country. I’m thinking to set the team up playing the 4-1-3-2 system as usual, depending on the opponent of course”.
Lionel Messi has been declared by Maradona himself as his successor many times in the past, and his latest accomplishments definitely support this statement. Messi at just 22 years old has already won many prestigious titles like the FIFA World Player of the Year and the Golden Ball. He has 39 goals this season with Barcelona in a total of 43 games, making it his most successful yet.
