Didier Drogba has finally made the decision to participate in the 2010 World Cup in South Africa with the Ivory Coast. The African striker of Chelsea and Ivory Coast’s biggest weapon was supposed to go under surgery within the next two weeks, but now it seems Drogba has decided to tough it out and come to South Africa.

“I will appear in the 2010 World Cup and take care of my injury right after instead. I had planned to get operated in two weeks, but changed my mind - I will not do this now,” said Drogba in a recent BBC interview. Didier Drogba is already 32 years old, so most likely this is his last chance to play in a World Cup competition, something that was definitely on the player’s mind all this time. Drogba had a groin strain injury for quite some time now, and he was tormented to make a decision whether to fix this problem now, after the season with Chelsea is over, or wait until the end of the World Cup finals with his national team.

Another player of the same caliber had to make a similar choice recently: Fernando Torres of Spain was injured a couple of weeks back, and the player decided to forget the rest of the season with Liverpool and get operated right away in order to make it on time for the World Cup. Torres was heavily criticised by fans and media for doing this, and maybe this had also something to do with Didier Drogba backing up from his initial approach, and to finally announce that he will wait in order to not miss any important games in the Premier League and in South Africa.
