Spain is the second largest country in Europe after France and its territories include the Balearic Islands, the Canary Islands, Ceuta and Melilla. The Kingdom of Spain as it is officially called has a population of 46 million people, and 7 million inhabitants live in Madrid the capital and largest city in Spain. Other important cities include Barcelona, Valencia, Seville and Zaragoza. Apart from Spanish, there are another four recognized regional languages: Aranese, Basque, Catalan/Valencian and Galician. The Spanish football team is the current European Champion, and has participated in the Fifa World Cup 12 times so far. The 2010 World Cup in South Africa will be the 13th time for the Spain football team, which is the only team in history to be on the top of the FIFA World Rankings having never won the World Cup. Spain is playing the first round in Group H of the 2010 FIFA World Cup, alongside Switzerland, Honduras and Chile.
