World Cup favourites Spain defeated Honduras in the Ellis Park Stadium of Johannesburg for the second gameday of Group H, loosing many chances as well as a penalty shot. David Villa was the MVP of the game, scoring his first two goals in the World Cup 2010 finals, but lost the opportunity to make a hat-trick. Spain may need a good goal difference later on if there are three teams with the same points at the end of the group stage, so now they must beat Chile and probably have to score more than just one goal.
Right from the start of the game Spain had the ball possession while creating chances: David Villa’s shot hit the post in 7′, Sergio Ramos missed the target with a close range header in 11′, but managed to open the score 6 minutes later: David Villa dribbled past three opponents and fired a shot while he was falling down, scoring probably the best goal of the entire tournament so far. Later on Fernando Torres lost two fantastic chances in a row, and it seems he has not yet fully recovered from his injury and operation. Torres first missed a close header in 33′, and just seconds later was alone against goalkeeper Noel Valladares but shot outside.
David Villa (that did not get a red card for hitting Osman Chávez in the first half) scored a second goal in 51′, finishing off Honduras for good. Villa lost the opportunity to score a third personal goal in 62′, when Jesús Navas won a penalty for Spain after a bad tackle from Emilio Izaguirre. Villa stepped up to take the shot, but completely missed the target sending the ball outside. The rest of the game continued with Spain missing a ton of chances, and now needs to beat Chile with two goals or more to make sure they continue in the World Cup 2010 round of 16 next week.
