South Korea beats Greece by 2-0

South Korea versus GreeceThe warriors of South Korea made the best possible start in the World Cup 2010, easily beating Greece in the most exciting game so far of the World Cup tournament. South Korea is right now the sole resident in the first spot of Group B, and is automatically becoming one of the favourite teams to advance past the first round of the World Cup 2010 in South Africa.

The Greeks came in strong and lost their biggest chance of the game just 2 minutes after the start: captain Giorgos Karagounis sent a long ball in the heart of the South Korean defence, but Vasilis Torosidis took a quick shot that missed by a few meters. South Korea answered right away, and just five minutes later opened the score with a beautiful goal from Lee Jung-Soo after a corner. Greece had trouble turning the game for the rest of the first half, the Greeks won 6 corners but despite their height advantage against South Korea the never really threatened goalkeeper Jung Sung-Ryong.

The second half started exactly the same way, and South Korea again in the 7th minute scored a second goal with their captain Park Ji-Sung of Manchester United after a tragic mistake of the Greek defence. Park Chu-Young missed a fantastic chance in the 63rd minute to make the game a triumph for South Korea, and Greece picked up the pace right after: Theofanis Gekas in 65′, and substitutes Dimitris Salpigidis in 70′ and Pantelis Kapetanos in 71′ missed some great chances to bring Greece back in the game. Jung Sung-Ryong somehow managed to make an incredible save in the 82th minute to stop a hard shot from Gekas, and this first World Cup 2010 game was definitely over for Greece.
