South Korea took advantage of their last game for Group B of the tournament, got a 2-2 against Nigeria and is advancing to the round of 16 behind Argentina. Nigeria took the lead twice in the Moses Mabhida Stadium of Durban, lost many good chances throughout the entire game, but failed to take the victory and the ticket to the second round.
The Super Eagles of Nigeria scored a goal in their first good chance of the game: Chidi Odiah made a nice effort inside South Korea’s defence, and Kalu Uche pushed the ball to the back of the net with just 12 minutes in the game. Uche shot at the post in 36′, losing another big chance for Nigeria to take a two goal lead. Two minutes later South Korea that was coming back in the game creating chances, scored an equaliser with Lee Jung-Soo after a close range shot.
The second half started with a South Korean goal straight from the locker rooms: Park Chu-Young’s foul shot went past Vincent Enyeama, while giving the lead and a huge advantage to his national team. Yakubu Aiyegbeni lost the chance of the…year in 66′, when in front of an empty net and just two meters away, he somehow managed to miss the target. But the same player successfully converted a penalty shot into a goal 4 minutes later, making it 2-2 for Nigeria. The Africans pushed hard for the remaining minutes of the game, missed many good chances to win the game, but South Korea played some excellent defence and combined with the result from the other game of Group B, managed to advance in the round of 16.
