Honduras versus ChileChile started the World Cup 2010 with a great performance and victory against Honduras in the Mbombela Stadium of Nelspruit. Jean Beausejour scored the golden goal for Chile, that is now in the first place of Group H in South Africa.

Chile started putting pressure on the Honduras team right from the start, and in the second minute of the game Matías Fernández foul shot barely missed the target. Marcelo Bielsa’s players continued having the ball possession and a few opportunities during the entire first half, but without creating any huge chances. The goal for Chile came in the 34th minute of the game, when Mauricio Isla sent a long ball right in the centre of the Honduras defence with Beausejour pushing the ball inside the net.

In the second half Chile made even more chances to score a second goal, but without any success: Alexis Sánchez missed a close shot in 62′, and two minutes later goalkeeper Noel Valladares stopped a header from Waldo Ponce literally on the goal line. The rest of the second half didn’t really offer anything exciting, and Chile got their first ever World Cup win outside South America, while taking the lead in Group H of the tournament.
