In the most entertaining football game of the entire World Cup finals, Germany destroyed Australia by 4-0 in a match that turned out as a display of power for the Germans. Lukas Podolski was named the MVP of the game, scoring the first goal for Germany in the 8th minute and leading the way to an easy victory for the three time World Champions. The game between Germany and Australia was played in Durban, for Group D of the World Cup 2010 in South Africa.
Miroslav Klose (26′), Thomas Müller (67′) and Cacau (70′) scored the rest of the goals for Germany. Australia was down to 10 men from the 56th minute of the game, when Tim Cahill of Everton was sent off with a straight red card. Germany had an explosive first half, but was somehow saved from a certain goal just in the third minute of the game: Richard García had almost started to celebrate when German captain Philipp Lahm threw his body on the goal line for the stop.
Lukas Podolski opened the score for Germany 8 minutes in the match, and lost another great chance a few minutes later. Miroslav Klose missed a fantastic chance in the 24th minute, but the first goal scorer of the previous World Cup didn’t strike out three minutes later scoring with a strong header. Mesut Özil’s shot was stopped at the very last second in 31′, and the German hammering attack went on like that for the entire first half.
In the second half Germany slowed down the pace a little bit, but after Tim Cahill’s red card in 56′ (hard tackle on Bastian Schweinsteiger for a straight red card) the game could only end one way for Australia that was down to 10. Germany scored another two goals within 3 minutes, took the 3 points, and showed everyone that they will definitely be one of the teams to beat in the World Cup 2010 this summer.
