The initial roster selection for France has not been officially announced yet, but French coach Raymond Domenech will be calling Djibril Cissé to the team and possibly in the 2010 World Cup in South Africa. According to French media Cissé will be travelling to France in the upcoming week to start preparing, and the player will follow a special program under the supervision of the team’s physiotherapist.
“Djibril is every day showing how much he wants to come to the 2010 World Cup,” said Domenech in a recent interview. “For some reason this is even more important than the amount of goals he has scored this season. I will take to South Africa and the World Cup all the players that really want to be there. I know Cissé for many years, and I am certain he will continue scoring many goals.”
Cissé scored 23 goals in 27 games for Panathinaikos this season, more than double than any other player in Greece. The player also managed to score another five goals during the Europa League, and helped his team reach the round of 16. Raymond Domenech called Cissé to the French national team for the first time after 4 years on a recent friendly match against Spain, the player came in as a substitute and made some great plays for France. Cissé was one of the top goal scorers for France coming to the previous World Cup in 2006, but in the very last warm-up match before the tournament he broke his leg. This injury kept Djibril Cissé behind and away from the French team for many years, but now the player is back and ready for South Africa.
