David Beckham was recently injured during a moment of bad luck playing for AC Milan, and as a result he will be missing the 2010 World Cup in South Africa with England. Now the player says he is ready to participate in the World Cup competition and help his country from a different position this time.
“I will not play in the 2010 World Cup, but as a supporter and member of this England team the coach invited me to South Africa. We haven’t really discussed all the details and everything will depend on the condition of my injury. The last couple of years I was pushing myself hard because I wanted to be part of another World Cup tournament, but travelling all the time from Los Angeles to Europe and back made me really tired. My body couldn’t take it any more, in that particular Milan game I was running so much that I really felt it coming, and just one minute before the end it did. The damage is done now.”
Beckham also commented on the World Cup organisation and South Africa in general: “I believe we will see a great World Cup competition. I am a great admirer of the nation, and I always had many supporters from South Africa. I think everything will be spotless and the 2010 World Cup will be one of the best tournaments in history.”
David Beckham finished the interview talking about his current team, LA Galaxy and his plans for the future. “I will be playing with Galaxy until my contract is over. I have always honoured my contracts so far, and I’m planning to do the same with Los Angeles. Later we see what will happen but I’m very happy there, the team was supporting me 100% from day one, the directors are exceptional peope.”
