Denmark knocked Cameroon out of the World Cup 2010 in South Africa, after a 2-1 victory in the Loftus Versfeld Stadium of Pretoria for Group E of the tournament. Denmark conceived an early goal but managed to come back and win the game, and will now fight against Japan for a spot in the second round of the World Cup 2010. The Netherlands have already secured a spot in the round of 16, and Cameroon that has zero points is officially out of the race.
Both Cameroon and Denmark were playing their last card yesterday, and came in the game looking for a quick goal. Samuel Eto’o opened the score for Cameroon in the tenth minute of the match, after a mistake by Simon Kjær and an assist from Achille Emana. Emana lost a great chance to double Cameroon’s goals three minutes later, and Denmark was slowly but surely coming back in the game. Kjær sent a fantastic long ball to Dennis Rommedahl from the back of the defence, and Nicklas Bendtner tied the game for Denmark in 33′. Cameroon had two chances to take back the lead, with Eto’o hitting the right post and Emana sending the ball on goalkeeper Thomas Sørensen.
The second half also started with Cameroon having the ball possession and creating chances, but Denmark was the team that managed to score a goal: Rommedahl dribbled past Jean Makoun and fired a shot beating Souleymanou Hamidou to make it 2-1 for the Vikings. Hamidou saved a dangerous shot by Tomasson in 71′, and six minutes later Sørensen did the same to stop Emana in Cameroon’s biggest chance during the second half.
